Google's DeepMind Develops Meta-Learning Robot System

A team of researchers at Google's DeepMind has developed an AI system that can learn from a single action repeated up to 600 times a day, without requiring explicit programming or large amounts of labeled data. The system, which uses a type of machine learning called meta-learning, was tested on a robotic arm task where the robot must pick and place objects in a specific way. By repeating this action thousands of times, the AI system can learn to perform the task with increasing accuracy, without needing human intervention or extensive training data.

Kalispell Students Fight for School Levy Funding

A group called "One Brave Pack" is trying to persuade voters in Kalispell, Montana to support a high school levy that would fund schools and avoid cuts to programs such as the AG Center, sports, music, theater, speech and debate, and more. The levy has not passed in 18 years, and if it fails, 21 full-time positions will be eliminated. Students like Vikram Vatti, Lucy Downey, and Nat Young are canvassing their community to raise awareness about the importance of passing the levy, which would increase taxes for a home with a taxable value of $447,000 by approximately $73.80 per year.

Uttarakhand Cracks Down on Islamic Schools and Madrasas

The Indian state of Uttarakhand has been cracking down on Islamic educational institutions, including schools and tuition classes for Islamic studies. Maulana Haroon, head of Madarsaa Irshad-ul-uloom in Roorkee, claims that the registration process is too slow, affecting his school's ability to obtain approval. Abdul Rehman, a teacher at Madrasa Jamiul Uloom in Dehradun, says his school was sealed due to unapproved construction despite having all necessary registrations. The Jamiat Ulema Hindu (Uttarakhand) has moved the Supreme Court, alleging that the government's actions are politically motivated and target Muslims. Mufti Shamoon Qasmi, chairman of the Uttarakhand Madrasa Education Board, says only 49 out of 88 registered institutions were approved in February, while 37 were asked to meet norms.
