Hazrul Jailed for Breaching Patient Confidentiality

Deputy Public Prosecutor Sunil Nair prosecuted Hazrul, a former employee of the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), for accessing a patient's confidential records without her consent. Hazrul had messaged the woman on Instagram over six days, complimenting her and discussing her medical history, medication, and upcoming appointments. He continued to contact her after she blocked him on Instagram, sending her birthday wishes and messages about her psychiatric appointment. IMH investigated and found that Hazrul had accessed the patient's records nine times before disabling his access to the system. The court ultimately sentenced Hazrul to a jail term after he was convicted of an offense related to accessing confidential information without consent.
