The US had sent a revised version of the trade agreement to Kyiv after weeks of silence, with Ukraine's task being to assemble a technical team and negotiate further. Ukrainian officials, led by Minister of Finance Oleksii Svyrydenko, have expressed interest in signing this revised document, but are cautious about commenting on its contents.
The introduction of reciprocal tariffs by US President Donald Trump has added complexity to the negotiations. A 10% duty was imposed on all countries, including Ukraine, while Iran and Syria were subject to higher rates of 10% and 40%, respectively. Belarus, Cuba, North Korea, and other sanctioned countries were exempt from these measures.
The proposed new draft agreement would require ratification by Ukraine's parliament and would involve Kyiv's involvement in managing a fund, which analysts believe would be minimal. However, Ukraine hopes to challenge this point in negotiations, indicating ongoing tensions between the two countries as they work towards a more comprehensive agreement.
