The Department of Education (DepED) in the Philippines is taking a significant step towards promoting inclusivity in education by partnering with Special Olympics Pilipinas to implement Unified Sports programs in over 500 schools, reaching approximately 50,000 students. This initiative aims to provide equal opportunities for students with and without disabilities to participate in sports together.
In line with this effort, at least 2,000 educators will undergo specialized training to adopt inclusive practices in their teaching methods. This move is part of the government's broader strategy to create a more inclusive education system that caters to diverse needs.
The Philippines has made a significant commitment to promoting inclusion by becoming the first country in Asia Pacific to join the Special Olympics Global Coalition for Inclusion, which will enable the country to share best practices and expertise in promoting education and sports as tools for inclusion.
