Pakistan's Peacekeeping Role Assailed
Pakistan's long-standing commitment to United Nations peacekeeping operations has been a cornerstone of its international relations, with the country currently hosting a UN Peacekeeping Ministerial meeting in Islamabad and contributing over 3,267 personnel across seven missions. This dedication is reflected in Pakistan's status as one of the longest-serving and leading troop contributors to UN peacekeeping efforts.
The country's special assistant to the Prime Minister, Fatemi, emphasized the need for unified support from the UNSC to ensure effective implementation of mandates, tailored mission objectives, and adequate resources for peacekeepers. This sentiment was echoed by Secretary-General Guterres, who received a briefing on Pakistan's priorities during its non-permanent Security Council term.
Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to UN Charter principles, including peacekeeping efforts, and urged the international community to address India's occupation of Jammu and Kashmir. The country also highlighted cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan and called for UN support in countering this menace.
