The Indonesian government has taken a crucial step in addressing the growing concern of digital technology's impact on children's mental health with the introduction of new regulations aimed at safeguarding their well-being. President Prabowo Subianto launched the regulation, developed in collaboration with various stakeholders focused on children's welfare, to mitigate the adverse effects of social media and online activities. A significant proportion of parents are worried about their children's exposure to inappropriate content and internet crimes, with 75% expressing concern over these issues. Furthermore, 59% fear that their child could become a victim of online harassment or cyberbullying. This anxiety is not unfounded, as two out of five kids have reported receiving online insults or upsetting messages. Experts from Save the Children emphasize the importance of building secure attachment relationships and modeling emotional regulation for children to develop healthy online habits. They also recommend asking non-accusatory questions and being gentle with one's own childhood experiences to help children navigate the digital world without feeling overwhelmed by pressures to present a perfect image.
