India's efforts to enhance education and research collaboration with BIMSTEC countries have taken a significant leap forward, as part of its commitment to regional development and trade. The country has announced plans to train 300 youth from the Bay of Bengal region annually through scholarships at prestigious institutions such as the Forest Research Institute of India and Nalanda University.
The Centre of Excellence for traditional medicine research will facilitate knowledge exchange and best practices in agriculture, while the BIMSTEC Energy Centre in Bengaluru aims to expedite electric grid interconnection among member nations. A Sustainable Maritime Transport Centre is also being set up to enhance coordination on maritime policies.
India's focus on education and research collaboration is evident through its hosting of the BIMSTEC Young Leaders' Summit, BIMSTEC Hackathon, and Young Professional Visitors programme. These initiatives demonstrate India's commitment to fostering regional development and cooperation among its BIMSTEC partners, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar.
By investing in education and research collaboration, India aims to address common challenges and promote economic growth within the region.
