The IITs' Merit-Based Admission Process Explained
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are renowned for their rigorous merit-based admission process, which selects students for high-demand fields such as engineering, maths, and science. The Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) 2025 is a prime example of this process, where only a small percentage of school-leavers are selected for admission.
The registration window for JEE Advanced 2025 has opened, with direct online registration beginning on April 7, 2025, for OCI/PIO(F) and foreign candidates. Qualified JEE Main candidates can register from April 23, 2025, with the last date for fee payment being May 5, 2025. The examination will be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode with two papers of three hours' duration each, consisting of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics sections.
The IITs use a merit-based approach to select students, where academic excellence is the primary criterion for admission.
