Krakow Dragon Shut Down for Fuel Probe

A iconic metal sculpture of a dragon at the foot of Wawel Castle in Krakow, Poland will be temporarily shut down for a month to investigate why it is consuming excessive fuel. The 6-meter tall sculpture, created by Polish sculptor Bronislaw Chromy in the late 1960s, attracts millions of tourists each year who watch as flames shoot from its snout every three minutes. According to city officials, including Krzysztof Wojdowski, experts will check the gas feeds to find ways to reduce the dragon's energy bills and it is expected to regain its fire-breathing abilities in March.

Ludovic de Saint Sernin Revamps Jean Paul Gaultier

Fashion designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin took over Jean Paul Gaultier's haute couture show at Paris Couture Week, reinterpreting the house's legacy with a collection that blended his signature aesthetic of eroticism and queer-inflected detailing. The show honored Gaultier's themes of gender subversion and body-conscious silhouettes while incorporating Saint Sernin's stripped-down vision. The collection featured intricately constructed pieces that blurred the lines between seduction and restraint, including a silk caramel gown with rope detailing across the bust and models wearing rope encircling their arms. This was part of Gaultier's tradition of inviting guest designers to reinterpret his couture house each season, following in the footsteps of designers such as Chitose Abe, Glenn Martens, Olivier Rousteing, Haider Ackermann, and Simone Rocha.

The renovation will be funded entirely from the museum's coffers, including income from its Abu Dhabi branch and expected donations from countries such as the United States. Macron also plans to increase the entrance fee for foreign visitors from outside the European Union to help cover the costs. The project is expected to be completed by 2031 at the latest.

Myron Stout's Pared-Down Geometric Abstractions

Myron Stout's artistic output was remarkably small, with fewer than two dozen paintings and an equal number of graphite pencil drawings produced throughout his lifetime. Despite this, he is known for his distinctive style, which focused on rounded, archaic forms from the mid-1950s until 1980 when blindness forced him to stop painting. A recent exhibition at Peter Freeman, Inc., featuring 35 charcoal drawings by Stout, revealed a decisive and searching quality in his work after he shifted away from geometric figures towards pared-down geometric abstraction. The drawings, made on identically sized sheets of Strathmore paper between the 1940s and 1952, demonstrate Stout's ability to achieve a range of subtle tones using graphite pencil marks on even surfaces of gray.
