Iwamura's Whimsical

Artist Iwamura has showcased his solo exhibition "Mask" at the Ross + Kramer Gallery, featuring 20 ceramic sculptures that demonstrate his exploration of color, shape, material, and surface. The collection is driven by a desire to reconnect with childlike curiosity and creativity, as noted by the gallery. His "Neo Jomon: Stacking Neighbor" series was inspired by observing his son's play-based learning process, resulting in dynamic, two-part ceramic sculptures that fit together like stacked toys. To achieve intricate surfaces, Iwamura allows his hand-built forms to air dry before drawing tools across them, creating rake-like patterns reminiscent of Buddhist Zen gardens and Jōmon culture pottery. The series serves as a meditation on parenthood while encouraging viewers to reconnect with their inner child.

Dior's Chiuri Channels Past Centuries' Creativity

During Paris Couture Week, designers showcased nostalgic evening wear, fantasy-fuelled escapism and messages about world peace in their collections. Maria Grazia Chiuri's Dior collection was inspired by "the creativity of past centuries" and featured retro draped skirts and trapeze dresses. Daniel Roseberry's Schiaparelli collection included corsets prominently, while Zuhair Murad's collection was inspired by the idea of a tropical island as a refuge from the harsh realities of life. Franck Sorbier tackled war and peace directly in his theatrical show "Symphonie Barbare", featuring bare-chested men and female "warriors of peace" dressed in trapeze gowns. Other designers, including Viktor & Rolf, also explored themes such as technology and artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, there were changes on fashion's artistic director merry-go-round, with Stella McCartney announcing her departure from LVMH and Glenn Martens being appointed artistic director at Maison Margiela.
