Bimbadhar Gouda's Shocking Pig Act Sparks Outrage

In an effort to stay relevant in a changing cultural landscape, Indian street theatre has resorted to increasingly outrageous and grotesque performances. For example, Bimbadhar Gouda's portrayal of a demon in a retelling of the Ramayana in Odisha involved him tearing open the skin of a live pig and consuming its raw meat on stage. This shocking act was part of an attempt by street theatre artists to adapt to the digital age and counter ideological threats, but it has sparked controversy and raised questions about the limits of artistic expression.

Hockaday Museum Rebrands as Glacier Art Museum

The Hockaday Museum of Art in Kalispell, Montana has changed its name to the Glacier Art Museum as part of a strategic plan approved by its board in September 2024. The new name is intended to better reflect the museum's connection to the surrounding region and its service to a larger community of artists from five counties. Despite the name change, the museum's mission remains the same, with Executive Director Alyssa Cordova emphasizing that it will continue to preserve and celebrate the artistic legacy of the area. The museum, which is the only art museum in Northwest Montana, will gradually begin making changes to its signage over the next few months as part of the transition.
