Esteban Raheem's Blood Be Water at ICA San Jose

Esteban Raheem Abdul Raheem Samayoa's solo exhibition, Blood Be Water, is on view at ICA San Jose from March 22 to August 24, 2025. The immersive installation features airbrushed paintings, charcoal drawings, oil pastels, and ceramics that draw from muralism, street art, and Latin American folk traditions. Samayoa's work explores heritage, identity, and transformation, challenging the idea of prioritizing familial bonds over chosen relationships by highlighting the power of community as a form of family. His monochromatic paintings evoke memories and ancestral ties, while his ceramics incorporate raw textures and organic materials to ground the exhibition in physicality and tradition. The works intersect personal and collective histories, fostering a sense of belonging and self-understanding through Samayoa's creation of a space for reflection and communal dialogue.
