US Intelligence Community Using AI For Surveillance and Satellite Imagery

The US intelligence community is cautious about adopting generative artificial intelligence (AI) due to concerns over model integrity and security. Different agencies have different priorities for AI adoption, with the National Security Agency focusing on intercepting communications and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency using AI to analyze satellite imagery. The FBI’s use of AI is limited by legal restrictions on domestic surveillance. Generative AI may not be effective in matching wits with rival masters of deception, as analysts often work with incomplete or unreliable information. Instead, intelligence agencies are focusing on using AI to enhance existing missions and gather precise geospatial intel.
