Target Rolls Out Chatbot for Store Team Members

Target has developed an internal chatbot called Store Companion to assist store team members with daily tasks. The chatbot uses generative AI technology and will be available as an app on handheld devices. It can provide answers to frequently asked questions, such as how to sign up guests for Target Circle cards or restart cash registers after power outages. Target’s in-house technology team used process documents from store teams across the US to develop the chatbot, which is being refined based on feedback from pilot tests. Generative AI is considered a game-changing technology by retailers, with 77% of business leaders ranking it as the most impactful emerging technology.
