Mongolia's Trans Pianist Breaks Barriers Online

In Mongolia, a socially conservative country, LGBTQ youth are fighting for acceptance through media representation. Influencer and pianist Anudari Daarya, who is transgender, has faced discrimination since coming out at her arts university, including being told she couldn't work with children due to her gender identity. However, after a viral video of her teaching piano went online, her career took off, and she now works as a model and teaches music. Comedian Kena, who performs under the name Khulan Batbaatar, uses their platform to tell relatable jokes about LGBTQ experiences and share stories about love and sex. Despite these positive examples, many LGBTQ Mongolians face bleak realities, including discrimination in education settings, which can lead to dropping out of school or being kicked out by parents, limiting career prospects and forcing them into low-wage jobs.

Ontario Universities Face Funding Crisis Due to Decline

Ontario's universities are facing significant funding challenges due to declining international student enrolment, resulting in projected multimillion-dollar deficits. The Council of Ontario Universities warns that this trend poses a threat to the province's workforce, research, and innovation needs. Institutions such as Université de l'Ontario français (UOF) in Toronto and Algoma University have seen steep declines in out-of-province applications, with drops of 59.4% and 24.4%, respectively. However, some universities like OCAD University and Huron University are bucking the trend, with notable increases in Ontario high school applicants and a focus on promoting small class sizes and internships to attract students.
