CBSE Cracks Down on 29 Schools in Surprise Inspections

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted surprise inspections at 29 schools in six locations, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Varanasi, Bihar, Gujarat, and Chhattisgarh. The inspections found that majority of the schools had violated the board's affiliation bye-laws by enrolling students who were not attending classes, effectively creating "non-attending" enrolments. Eighteen schools in Delhi, three in Varanasi, two each in Bengaluru, Patna, Ahmedabad, and Bilaspur, and Chhattisgarh were found to be in breach of regulations. The CBSE is taking action against the defaulting institutions, including issuing show-cause notices and considering legal action. This practice of enrolling "dummy" students is common among students preparing for engineering and medical entrance exams, who prefer to focus on their preparations rather than attending classes.
