Hyderabad Churches Bring Passion Plays to Life

In Hyderabad, several landmark churches are using theatre to engage their congregations during major Christian observances like Christmas, Good Friday, and Easter. Passion Plays, a unique blend of faith and performing arts, have been staged in these churches since 1910 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Band Lines. The plays, initially performed in Tamil with Tamil songs, have shifted to primarily Hindi script while incorporating Tamil hymns over the past decade. Christian theatre continues to evolve, depicting historical events tied to Christian tradition, such as Jesus Christ's final hours and the Stations of the Cross.

Neuchâtel Prescribes Museum Visits as Medicine

The Swiss town of Neuchâtel is launching a unique pilot project where doctors can prescribe museum visits to their patients as part of their treatment, with local authorities covering the costs. The initiative is based on a 2019 World Health Organization report that highlights the benefits of art for mental health and well-being, including reduced trauma impact and lower mortality risk. By encouraging physical activity through museum visits, residents can benefit from a form of preventive medicine.

NSW Approves $300m Powerhouse Museum Rebuild Plan

The NSW government has approved a $300 million rebuild of the Powerhouse museum at Ultimo, with plans to demolish parts of the building and create a public square to connect it to the CBD. The redesign aims to improve exhibition spaces and will be completed by 2027, although visitors will have to wait until then. The project was met with opposition from former trustee Kylie Winkworth, who claimed it would shrink net dedicated exhibition floor space by 75% and change the site's use from museum exhibitions to performance and events.

Perth Artist's Sculpture Left to Rust in Storage

A Perth artist, Lorenna Grant, is upset that her public artwork "Arch" has been stored in an industrial lot in North Coogee instead of the City of Perth's Works Depot in Osborne Park, where it was originally moved from its location in Northbridge due to rust issues. The city had commissioned Grant to create a unique sculpture for the roundabout, but after its removal in 2023, it was relocated without her knowledge or consent, leaving it exposed to the elements and at risk of deterioration.
