India's Autism Diagnosis Rate Revealed at 1 in 69 Children

India is making progress in recognizing autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but more work needs to be done. According to Kundra, approximately 1 in 69 children in India are affected by ASD, a complex developmental condition characterized by repetitive and rigid behaviors alongside social communication deficits. Diagnosing ASD involves identifying behavioral patterns using tools like the CARS, ADOS, and ISAA, which help clinicians assess severity and symptom nature. Notably, not all autistic children have intellectual disabilities, with some possessing exceptional abilities or experiencing cognitive delays that can be assessed through psychometric tests.

Rowe Children Removed Over Transphobic Incident

A couple, Nigel and Sally Rowe, had their two sons removed from a Church of England primary school after their six-year-old son expressed discomfort with a classmate who was wearing a dress and identifying as a girl. The incident sparked controversy over the Department for Education's guidelines on transphobia and homophobia in schools. Statistics show that 94 pupils were suspended or excluded for such behavior in the 2022-23 academic year, including ten from Year 1 and three from Year 2. Helen Joyce, director of advocacy at Sex Matters, criticized teachers and school leaders for applying adult concepts to young children, calling it "insanity". The Education Secretary has emphasized the importance of creating a safe environment for all pupils and staff, with a comprehensive behavior support program in place.

San Francisco Schools Block Trump's DEI Order Mandate

San Francisco public schools and Santa Fe have obtained a temporary restraining order blocking the US Department of Education's requirement for AmeriCorps grant recipients to comply with President Donald Trump's anti-Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) executive orders. The ruling comes after the schools sued AmeriCorps over the issue, citing concerns that the orders would infringe on their constitutional rights.

Sara's Charity Exposes Child Abuse on School Grounds

Soma Sara's charity, Everyone's Invited, has collected thousands of anonymous testimonies from women and girls describing abusive behavior on school grounds, with 1,600 incidents occurring in elementary schools. The testimonies reveal that child-on-child sexual violence is becoming increasingly common among children under the age of 10, raising concerns that it may be too late to address misogynistic attitudes by age 13. Sara argues that banning social media for children under 16, like Australia did last year, is not a practical solution and instead advocates for education programs in schools to help children critically evaluate the pornography and misogynistic narratives they are exposed to.
