Churchill Portrait Stolen from National Gallery Canada

A clumsy art theft at the National Gallery of Canada led to the renewed mystique behind a prized portrait of Winston Churchill, which was discovered missing for nearly eight months before being identified as stolen. The theft occurred between December 2021 and January 2022, but it wasn't until an observant staff member noticed a fake frame in place of the original that the investigation began. The international probe ultimately led to an Italian buyer who purchased the painting at an auction house in the UK, unaware that he had bought a stolen work of art.
