Stanford Study: Weekend Drinking Risks Soar by 26%

A study led by Brian Suffoletto from Stanford University found that spontaneous weekend drinks carry a 26% increased risk of negative outcomes such as embarrassment, hangovers and blackouts. The research revealed that social settings, particularly weekend gatherings and the influence of friends, significantly contributed to this risk. Participants who had "drinking friends" present were 12 times more likely to engage in unplanned drinking compared to those with no friends present. Unplanned drinking was also found to be more common on weekends, with 82.5% of incidents occurring on Fridays and Saturdays. The study suggests that targeted interventions addressing impulsivity and peer influence could help reduce the harms associated with unplanned drinking.

Teddi Mellencamp Battles Melanoma with Immunotherapy Trial

Teddi Mellencamp has been battling stage II melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer, since her diagnosis in October 2022. Despite undergoing nearly 20 surgeries and a positive update in December 2022 that her recent surgeries were successful, she was later diagnosed with new spots on her body that required biopsies. In December 2023, Mellencamp revealed that she had been diagnosed with melanoma again and was advised against surgery due to the size of the excision area, opting for immunotherapy instead. She has since tried an immunotherapy cream on her shoulder, but it has not produced blisters as expected, which is a sign that it's working, and her doctors are increasing the dosage in hopes of achieving the desired result.
