The National Security Bureau (NSB) in Taiwan has identified six key tactics employed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to spread disinformation on social media platforms such as TikTok and YouTube. The tactics include flooding social media with information to change voter behavior, impersonating Taiwanese users and official accounts to spread fake news, leveraging military exercises for propaganda, posting artificial intelligence-generated deepfakes of Taiwanese officials, co-opting integrated media accounts to spread propaganda, and establishing multilingual news sites to reinforce the CCP's "one China" principle internationally. The NSB reported 3,900 cases of disinformation to government agencies and hosted over 100 exchange events with like-minded nations to share expertise on countering these tactics.
https://www.lokmattimes.com/international/disinformation-attacks-from-china-doubled-last-year-taiwan/YouTube has launched an AI-powered auto-dubbing tool that allows content creators to dub their videos in multiple languages. The feature, which is currently available for informational content such as cooking videos, uses Google Gemini's abilities to replicate human speech and convert it into languages including English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish. The tool will automatically detect the language of the video and create dubbed versions across languages, allowing creators to reach a wider audience. However, the feature is still in its early stages and may not be 100% accurate, so users are advised to review the auto-generated dubbing to avoid misinterpretation by the AI.
