Russian Couple Busted in $10M Sanctions Scheme

Goltsev, a Russian national, was arrested in New York in 2023 for allegedly masterminding a global procurement scheme to supply sanctioned end-users in Russia with electronics worth over $10 million. The components were used in missile systems, combat helicopters and signals intelligence systems in Ukraine. Goltsev's wife, Kristina Puzyreva, was also arrested and convicted in the case. U.S. officials stated that the couple's actions contributed to Russia's war efforts in Ukraine and they will be held accountable for breaking U.S. laws. Italian Journalist Cecilia Sala Freed

Italian journalist Cecilia Sala, who was detained in Iran for three weeks, has been released and is heading home after "intensive work on diplomatic and intelligence channels," according to Italian officials. Sala's release comes as a result of negotiations between Italy and the US, which had accused an Iranian engineer, Mohammad Abedini, of supplying drone technology used in a 2024 attack that killed three American troops in Jordan. The US Justice Department had issued a warrant for Abedini's arrest, leading Iran to detain Sala as a bargaining chip to secure his release. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni personally informed Sala's parents of the news and thanked those who helped facilitate her return.
