The Indonesian government has introduced a new initiative called Preparation of Citizens for State Defense (POKOS) to address shortcomings in crisis readiness. The Ministry of Defense led the effort, which found that schools lack adequate crisis education and adult training is scarce, while public administration and businesses are also unprepared for emergencies. To rectify this, the POKOS plan focuses on enhancing education and awareness without reinstating school military training, a move previously met with controversy.
