Carol Jerrems' Timeless Portrait Photography Revealed

Carol Jerrems' exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery is a revelation that showcases her portrait photography work. The exhibition includes some of her early work from Prahran College in Melbourne, where she was taught by film-maker Paul Cox, and demonstrates how her eye developed over time. Despite dying young at 30 due to a rare liver disease, Jerrems' art has been preserved through the National Gallery of Australia's collection of her full archive. Her use of a Pentax Spotmatic single reflex camera with black-and-white film is notable, and one of her self-portraits from 1979 is included in the exhibition.
