Japan Targets North Korea Allies with Asset Freeze

The Japanese government has taken additional measures to strengthen its response to North Korea's support for Russia and Moscow's use of third countries to evade sanctions. As part of this effort, 33 organizations and 12 individuals, including a North Korean national, have been added to the list of asset freeze targets under Japan's foreign exchange and foreign trade law. Additionally, 53 organizations from countries such as Russia and China are now subject to export bans and other measures. Furthermore, Japan will ban the export of 335 more goods, including small motorcycles and components for special-purpose vehicles, to Russia starting on January 23. These steps aim to contribute to international efforts for peace and demonstrate Japan's commitment to working with its Group of Seven partners in this regard.

The G7, which includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, along with the European Union, expressed concern that the inauguration underscores the urgent need for an environment where democratic engagement can flourish without fear of reprisal. They called for a peaceful, democratic, negotiated and Venezuelan-led solution to resolve the crisis in Venezuela.
