Turkish Glass Waste Transformed into Art Pieces

In Cappadocia, Turkey, glass waste from discarded bottles is being repurposed into decorative items and products by blending it with local soil as part of a collaboration between the Ahiler Development Agency (AHİKA) and Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University's Faculty of Fine Arts. The project aims to reduce environmental damage caused by tourism-related waste, while also promoting the region's image and fostering awareness about recycling among artists. Glass bottles are collected from hotels, restaurants, and trash bins in the region, sorted by color, cleaned, and ground into different sizes before being combined with clay used in local ceramics production. The resulting products are fired at high temperatures to create decorative items, artwork, and functional products.
