Victoria's Elite Schools Face Funding Cuts

Victoria's most expensive private schools, including Geelong Grammar, Penleigh and Essendon Grammar, and Mentone Grammar, will have their federal funding reduced over the next five years due to being "overfunded" by millions of dollars. The list of 299 schools, published for the first time during Senate estimates, includes institutions that have banked excess funds from the Commonwealth since 2024. Education Minister Jason Clare has vowed to transition these schools down to their assessed School Resourcing Standard (SRS) by 2029.

Pakistanis Get Medical License in CIS Countries

Pakistan's Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Hassan Ali Zaigham, announced that Pakistani medical graduates will be eligible to work in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries if they obtain a license from Kyrgyzstan's medical regulatory body. This opportunity is available due to Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan's growing ties, which were strengthened by a recent visit from Kyrgyzstan's Prime Minister to Pakistan as part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Over 5,000 Pakistani students have returned to their studies in Kyrgyzstan after fleeing amid attacks on universities and hostels in May. Despite this, thousands of Pakistani students remain in Kyrgyzstan, with over 11,000 studying at various universities, including more than 3,000 who have completed their education and returned home.
