A study conducted by researchers at the University of Cambridge has found that loneliness is linked to five specific proteins in the blood, which can contribute to a range of health issues including cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. The study, which analyzed data from over 42,000 adults aged 40-69, discovered that these proteins are more prevalent in people who experience social isolation or loneliness. According to Dr Chun Shen, one of the study's authors, this research highlights the importance of social contact in maintaining good health and suggests that addressing loneliness could be a key factor in reducing the risk of certain health problems.
