New York City Tests AI-Powered Scanners

New York City has launched a pilot program using AI-powered scanners to detect guns and knives in its subway system. The Evolv scanner uses artificial intelligence to search riders for prohibited items. A 30-day trial of the technology began at a lower Manhattan subway station. Civil liberties advocates have expressed concerns that the searches are unconstitutional, threatening a lawsuit. The mayor says the technology is effective but acknowledges it’s not ideal.
