NASA Appoints AI Officer for Responsible Use

NASA has appointed its first Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO) to guide responsible usage of AI for its missions and research projects. The CAIO role, held by David Salvagnini, will oversee AI safety, strategic planning, innovation, risk management, and partnerships to ensure NASA remains at the forefront of AI advancements. The appointment is an expansion of Salvagnini’s current role and aims to comply with President Joe Biden’s AI executive order, addressing concerns around the safe use of AI as it becomes more widely available.
