Chinese AI Academic Discusses Innovation Through Immigration

Chinese AI expert Yao Yang, director of the China Centre for Economic Research at Peking University, discussed China’s approach to developing “new quality productive forces” in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). He emphasized that innovation does not always require the most advanced technology, and sometimes small changes can be significant. To create an innovative environment, Yao suggested learning from competitors like the US, which has historically led innovation due to its open society welcoming immigrants. He proposed relaxing China’s household registration system to attract young people from around the world to start businesses in Shanghai.
