The Brazilian National Data Protection Authority has suspended Meta’s new privacy policy for using personal data to train generative artificial intelligence systems in the country. The suspension applies to all Meta products, including those not used by platform users. This decision was made due to an imminent risk of serious and irreparable damage to individuals’ fundamental rights. The authority set a daily fine of 50,000 reais for non-compliance. Meta expressed disappointment with the decision, stating that it will delay the arrival of AI benefits in Brazil. The controversy highlights concerns over the regulation of generative AI technology.
