The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has filed a complaint with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) against Aon Consulting, Inc., alleging that the company’s AI-powered hiring tools discriminate against job candidates based on disability and race. The ACLU claims that Aon’s tools make false or misleading claims about being “bias-free” and able to “increase diversity.” Aon sells applicant screening software to Fortune 500 companies, including Procter & Gamble Co. The complaint was filed on Wednesday and a copy was reviewed by Bloomberg. The ACLU alleges that the AI tools use psychological and personality tests to screen candidates, which can perpetuate discrimination against individuals with disabilities and certain racial groups.
