AI Guidelines Proposed for US Election Campaigns

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) proposed guidelines for responsible use of generative AI in political campaigns, aiming to limit potential threats to voters’ rights and leverage AI for innovative and efficient campaigning. The four-page agreement emphasized human oversight and accountability, requiring approval from a real person for AI-generated content and notification when interacting with an AI bot. The proposal also stressed the importance of using AI to assist staff, not replace them, and warned against creating misleading content. The guidelines were divided into five sections, including “Offering Human Alternatives” and “Providing Notice and Explanation.”
